A Teacher at Heart
Dr. Koushik heads the department and runs its Postgraduate Programme in Pulmonary Medicine, training the lung specialists of tomorrow. Every lung specialist he trains will go on to treat thousands of patients, which is why teaching matters so much to him.
He mentors learners at every stage:
- MBBS students taking their first steps into chest medicine
- MD Pulmonology residents becoming the next generation of lung specialists
- PhD scholars asking new questions through research
- BSc and MSc Respiratory Care students who will stand at the bedside helping patients breathe

COVID RESPONSE
Care beyond hospital walls
When COVID hit, hospitals filled up and families were frightened. He helped lead the response, running COVID care and launching a tele-home care programme that looked after more than 2,000 patients in their own homes. Patients got expert monitoring, hospital beds stayed free for those who needed them most, and families had a doctor to turn to. He also led the launch of several new clinical projects.
